Located on Boulder County's Mud Lake Open Space and designed in collaboration with Barrett Studio Architects, this four acre site will house an interpretive nature center featuring a green roofed kiva, an outdoor sun filled piazza, and an observation tower. These will be connected to a passive solar, photovoltaic powered central building featuring classrooms, meeting rooms, and educational displays.
The parking will be paved with permeable concrete pavers, allowing use as a gathering space for special events. An outdoor trail system will connect visitors to an outdoor classroom area with a fire pit and sculpted amphitheater echoing the sites' mining history. The trail will also link to a boardwalk area bordering the riparian ecosystem of Sherwood Creek and to nearby Caribou Ranch Open Space.
