Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center

wbeLocated on Boulder County’s Mud Lake Open Space and designed in collaboration with Barrett Studio Architects,  this four acre site will house an interpretive nature center featuring a green roofed kiva, an outdoor sun filled piazza, and an observation tower. These will be connected to a passive solar, photovoltaic powered central building featuring classrooms, meeting rooms, and educational displays.

The parking will be paved with permeable concrete pavers, allowing use as a gathering space for special events. An outdoor trail system will connect visitors to an outdoor classroom area with a fire pit and sculpted amphitheater echoing the sites’ mining history. The trail will also link to a boardwalk area bordering the riparian ecosystem of Sherwood Creek and to nearby Caribou Ranch Open Space.
