Sanctuary Garden

The problem facing the owner of this mountain home was the intrusion of a nearby highway into her outdoor space. An avid gardener, she rarely felt at peace outdoors. The goal was to create an environment where she would enjoy being along with her young daughter. An existing fence was reconstructed with bamboo panels and an undulating patina copper cap, which evokes the rolling peaks beyond. The gate with its circular archway and landing, create a portal into this inviting garden space. Stained concrete steps radiate down the hill toward the house, like ripples in a pond. Boulders are integrated into the steps, which lead to an earth-toned entry patio across a flowing gravel creek bed.
